Hocking College's Nursing Program Celebrates Nurses Week with Outstanding Results in NCLEX

Hocking College's nursing program has achieved a remarkable feat in recent years. The college's last two graduating cohorts achieved a perfect pass rate on the national nursing board exam (NCLEX), with both the 2022 summer and fall graduating cohorts boasting a 100% pass rate.

The Nursing program's achievements have not gone unnoticed. It has received several accolades, including accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Most recently, Hocking College's nursing programs have received the stamp of approval from the Ohio Board of Nursing. The Registered Nursing (RN) program has been fully accredited, and the RN program received full approval for five years without any areas of concern. Additionally, the Practical Nursing program has received full approval for two years without any areas of concern. This accreditation and approval signify that Hocking College's nursing programs have met rigorous standards set by the Ohio Board of Nursing and provide high-quality education and training for future nurses.

The program, which has existed since 1972, has consistently produced top-notch graduates who have gone on to excel in various nursing fields.

Emily Hoffman graduated from the Hocking College Practical Nursing (PN) program in 2006 and returned to complete the Registered Nursing (RN) program in 2007. After working at the bedside for several years, she returned to school to earn her bachelor's degree and, finally, her master's degree. Hoffman joined the staff at Hocking College one year ago as a clinical coordinator and currently holds a faculty position.

“Life is a journey that can take many turns, and my own path led me from a nursing student at Hocking College back to the college as a clinical coordinator and now a faculty member. With hard work and dedication, I have come full circle, returning to where it all began to inspire and educate the next generation of nursing students.”

Hocking College’s Nursing program has a strong commitment to experiential learning. The college has established partnerships with several healthcare facilities, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, and clinics, allowing students to gain practical experience in various healthcare settings. This hands-on learning experience prepares students for the demands of the nursing profession and enhances their chances of securing employment upon graduation. In the coming summer, all graduates will have the opportunity to engage in a precepting or immersion experience, allowing for one-on-one learning and preparing them for a career in nursing.

Faculty members in the program are not only experts in their field but are also dedicated educators committed to student success. They provide individualized attention and support to students, fostering an environment of learning and growth.

Lynne Morgan, a registered nurse with 41 years of experience, including 32 years as a faculty member at Hocking College, reflects on her career as she prepares to retire. Morgan shares how she initially doubted her ability to be an educator but was inspired by Marsha Noel, a former Hocking College faculty member of 32 years, who saw her potential and changed her career trajectory.

"Recognizing the impact we have on our students' lives and developing safe nursing practices is paramount," emphasizes Morgan. My time teaching at Hocking College has been rewarding.”

Despite retiring from her position, she intends to continue educating at the bedside, firmly believing that her life in education is “far from over.”

Hocking College Nursing program's successes are a testament to its commitment to providing high-quality nursing education. Its outstanding faculty, innovative curriculum, and modern facilities make it a leader in nursing education. Its accomplishments have benefited not only the program and its students but also the healthcare industry as a whole, as its graduates are well-prepared to meet the profession's demands and provide high-quality patient care
