Hocking College has worked to simplify that process through an all-inclusive tuition model that provides students with a clearer picture of what they will pay to attend.

Instead of paying separately for textbooks, course materials and program-specific materials, Hocking College includes these costs up front. Students pay one price that covers tuition, learning materials like books, and tools of the trade.

College leaders say the model helps students plan financially and avoid unexpected expenses that can interrupt their education.

“When students know what college will cost from the beginning, they can budget with confidence,” said Dr. Betty Young, president of Hocking College. “This is why we wanted to provide our students with a clear, upfront estimate of how much it would cost them to attend Hocking College so they could plan and budget accordingly and focus on their studies.”

Under the all-inclusive model, students pay a single price that includes tuition and required program-specific materials fees. Housing, meal plans, and parking remain separate and optional.

Hocking College’s approach reflects a broader national conversation about simplifying college costs. In a recent article published by Community College Daily, community colleges across the country are exploring ways to bundle textbooks and required materials into tuition to make the cost of college easier for students to understand.

By providing a clear and predictable price, Hocking College hopes to remove some of the financial uncertainty that often makes planning for college difficult.
