The Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) recently announced the recipients of the VF x FSF Community College Scholarships. Hocking College is proud to have four of its students among the winners. Hocking College's nominations stood out of the 16 community college scholarship applications received from five different schools across California, New York City, and Ohio. The 2023 VF x FSF Community College Scholarship recipients from Hocking College are Emma Bambauer, Fatmata Feika, Lindsey Reed, and Trevell Adams.

The FSF Foundation expressed its admiration for the exceptional quality of submissions from Hocking College, stating, "Our panel of judges was highly impressed with the caliber of submissions this year from your school. The storytelling in each student's personal video was excellent! It allowed us to get a glimpse into who they are, the challenges that they've faced, and why they are interested in a fashion career. It is for all these reasons and more that we look forward to working with your students during their scholarship year and beyond!"

“The FDRM program was launched in 2020, and we are growing it into a thriving fashion hub for Southeast Ohio,” said Coral Wedel, Program Manager of Fashion Design & Retail Merchandising. “I am exceptionally proud of my students and faculty who are helping us bring access to the fashion industry to Appalachia. In addition, we are grateful for the tremendous support from industry leaders for this program."

The VF x FSF Community College Scholarship not only includes a generous $5,000 award but also provides valuable opportunities for the recipients. The students will have the chance to benefit from mentorship programs, participate in the Virtual Summer Scholar Series, and engage in a three-day job shadowing program in the fashion capital of the world, New York City.

The Hocking College Second Annual Fashion Show wrapped up with success. The show featured a live ticketed event at The Lodge at Hocking College on April 21st, supporting the Fashion Design & Retail Merchandising Scholarship through the Hocking College Foundation. In addition, a live stream event was held for students and staff to watch the show on screen in the Student Center as well as it streaming on YouTube for the public. We were fortunate to have Thomas McClure, Founding Executive Director of the Columbus Fashion Council, emcee the show in support as one of the show’s Strategic Partners. Additional Strategic Partners were (DE-FI) Global INC and Passport 2 Fashion. Sponsorships included Triple T Studios and Athens Impact, Socially Responsible Investments.

Hocking College's Annual Fashion Show highlights the original creations of our Fashion Design & Retail Merchandising students. It is a culmination of work and designs created during their entire program. Second-year students feature a three-design collection and brand concept. First-year students feature one design, and the Fashion Club features collaborative pieces that highlight the program overall. Students gain experience planning and producing a live fashion show in strategic partnership with industry professionals.
