A group of Culinary Arts students from Hocking College embarked on a journey to Italy this past June. The trip allowed these aspiring chefs to delve into the heart of Italian cuisine, honing their cooking skills while soaking up this culinary paradise's rich culture and flavors.
Accompanied by Chef Enzo, Hocking's Certified Master Chef, and Heather Campbell, Hocking College culinary students had the chance to explore various cities of northern Italy, including Asti and Parma.
The students engaged in various cultural, social, and educational activities throughout their culinary adventures. Apart from their time in the kitchen, the students explored wineries & vineyards, food production centers, local restaurants, and historical sites.
"The trip to Italy was an unforgettable experience for all of us," said Chef Enzo. "Not only did they expand their culinary horizons, but they also gained a deep appreciation for the cultural significance of food in Italy. It's something they will carry with them throughout their culinary careers."
The journey didn't just revolve around food; the students also immersed themselves in Italy's rich history and culture, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Vatican City, and Michelangelo's David. The cross-cultural exchange broadened their perspectives and instilled a sense of global culinary appreciation.
"This trip was a true eye-opener for me," Hocking culinary student Sophia Atherton said. "Experiencing the authentic tastes of Italy and learning from local chefs has inspired me to bring these flavors and techniques back home and incorporate them into my own culinary creations."
The excursion to Italy provided invaluable hands-on learning experiences. As the students returned to Hocking College, they brought a treasure trove of newfound knowledge and memories to cherish forever.
The Culinary Arts program at Hocking College continues to be a breeding ground for aspiring chefs, offering unparalleled opportunities for students to explore the world of gastronomy and cultivate their culinary talents.
